I pulled most all of my quotes from Mi Hyang from this article. There’s more in here than her quotes but that’s what I largely took from this article.

This one has quotes from Mi Hyang, the nephew of Kim Jong Il. and other defectors.

This is where the quotes from Yeonmi Park came from, another defector who has some close experience with the Pleasure Squad.

This one talks about the Pleasure Train.

This is one of the books I pulled some quotes from. It’s Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick. In it, award-winning journalist Barbara Demick follows the lives of six North Korean citizens over fifteen years.

This book is Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader: North Korea and the Kim Dynasty by Bradley Martin. This book “offers in-depth portraits of North Korea’s two ruthless and bizarrely Orwellian leaders, Kim Il-Sung and Kim Jong-Il. … This fascinating and complete history takes full advantage of a great deal of source material that has only recently become available (some from archives in Moscow and Beijing), and brings the reader up to the tensions of the current day.”
