Episode 60: The Tear Down: Scaling The Ice Wall

CW: Religion, Vague Cosmic Horror, Ocean Peril, Aliens
Come with us once again to explore this flat Earth of ours. Where we are desperate to find out what lies beyond… the ICE WALL. Like a paper plate, Antarctica keeps the rest of the flat Earth from spilling onto the picnic blanket of the Universe, and NASA guards this secret. But wait… what’s this? It turns out that it isn’t as closely guarded as THEY say it is! Join us on this journey through Flat Earth Theory and watch as we poke holes in this paper plate.

This episode is extra long, so enjoy those extra minutes!

We are going to start off with a slideshow of pictures of the Ice Wall (not really the Ice Wall, of course, just some Ice Shelves I’m torturing the other two with). That way you can follow along with the other two as they get increasingly uncomfortable. Don’t worry, I’ll explain what these are in the episode.

And now, speaking of Ice Shelves, let me show you the comparison images from The True Size (dot) com. Ice shelves can be as large as Texas or France according to the source I was looking at, so here is that comparison the three of us looked at on the air. It’s France overlaid on top of Texas.

A the final image is where we were looking at the size of Antarctica. One of the Flat Earthers who we were looking at quotes from said that Antarctica was either 60,000 miles or 14,000 though it really is somewhere closer to 18,000 in more recent measures. And because that’s hard to visualize (I mean, there’s really no way to tell, right) here’s our overlay.

We talked on this episode about the origins of the Antarctic Ice Wall theory and that meant going back to the very beginning before there even was a Flat Earth theory. The Flat Earth theory has its roots in the Hollow Earth Theory and a man named John Symmes. This guy is the one we have to thank for government sanctioned trips to Antarctica, and he did it to prove the Earth was Hollow. Here’s his Decree.

And here is what he thought he would find there!

And from that theory there grew the Flat Earth theory and the idea that explorers to the south pole were being met with a huge wall and a flat field of ice beyond. That was fueled strongly by explorer Richard Byrd and his supposed ‘lost diary entry.’

It was really encouraged by pictures like this one of his men scaling one of the ice shelves.

And the last of our pictures is the map of the Flat Earth that shows what some people (like David) believe to be beyond the ice wall. You can see the antimoons on this map and the continents outside the wall and so on.

And now, for some sources. Here’s what the Flat Earth Society has to say about their beliefs regarding the ice wall.

And this is from the other side as we look at Dr. Peter Neff, a glaciologist stationed in Antarctica who makes videos on TikTok and takes the time to answer all kinds of questions (including Flat Earth ones). He’s at the McMurdo Station, and if you want to watch his videos, head over to TikTok and find him at Icy_Pete.
